Netflix has secured the rights to "I Don't Know Who You Are Anymore", a compelling spec script written by talented scribe Matt Lawton. While plot details remain closely guarded, the project is said to blend the time-loop intrigue of Palm Springs with the emotional depth and family dynamics reminiscent of The Family Man.
Most recently, Lawton served as a co-executive producer on FOX’s beloved animated sitcom The Great North, now entering its fifth season. The show, featuring stellar voices like Nick Offerman, Jenny Slate, and Will Forte, paints a heartfelt portrait of Beef Tobin — a single father navigating life in the quirky, snow-laden town of Lone Moose, Alaska, alongside his four uniquely spirited children.
Before lending his storytelling prowess to Alaskan adventures, Lawton made waves as a consulting producer on NBC's ensemble comedy Superstore, which captured the lives of retail employees over six memorable seasons from 2015 to 2021. His journey through television also includes a pivotal role as supervising producer on the critically acclaimed police procedural comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine, starring Andy Samberg, Andre Braugher, and Terry Crews. From its Fox beginnings to its revival on NBC, Lawton witnessed the show evolve across eight seasons, becoming a modern classic.
Early in his career, Lawton honed his craft as a co-producer on Dan Harmon’s cult favorite Community, where he helped shape the offbeat humor and deeply human stories that defined the series. His comedic versatility shines further through past work on multi-camera gems such as Guys With Kids (NBC), Men at Work (TBS), and the British import adaptation Free Agents, as well as the IFC animated series Out There.
Among his development credits are Amazon’s The Cartoonist, CBS’ short-lived but notable The Buddy System, and an ambitious adaptation of Peter Bagge’s iconic comic book series The Bradleys for FOX.
As Netflix continues to expand its slate of original content, audiences can look forward to several anticipated releases this year, including Happy Gilmore 2, My Oxford Year, The Thursday Murder Club, Train Dreams, and the highly anticipated biopic Jay Kelly.
Matt Lawton is represented by WME, Michael Pelmont at Nacelle, and Loan Dang at Del Shaw — a powerhouse team supporting one of television’s most promising creative voices.
